Leukemia
Leukemia is a group of blood cancers that start in the bone marrow, where blood cells are produced. It involves the overproduction of abnormal white blood cells (often immature "blasts") that crowd out healthy red blood cells, platelets, and normal white cells. This leads to problems like anemia, infections, and bleeding.
Main Types of Leukemia
Breast cancer is not a single disease. There are several types, including:
- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) More common in adults; aggressive.
- Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL): Most common overall; often slow-growing in older adults.
- IChronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML): Associated with a specific genetic change (Philadelphia chromosome)
symptoms
Common signs include:
- Fatigue, weakness, pale skin (from anemia)
- Frequent infections
- Easy bruising or bleeding
- FBone/joint pain
- Swollen lymph nodes, liver, or spleen
- Unexplained weight loss
